This month is a special one here at the office. April marks the birthday month for both our founder, Earl, and his wife, Lynne. While we dearly miss Earl’s presence, his spirit is felt more than ever this time of year—especially through the cause that was closest to his heart.
A Different Kind of Birthday Gift
About a decade ago, during his birthday month, Earl Johnston decided he didn’t want to wait for multiple donors to pool their money to help a child. He wanted to see the magic happen faster by giving a different kind of birthday gift. Because of this mission, Earl and Lynne stepped up as “Signature Sponsors,” committing to fund an entire wish themselves, averaging $5,000.
A “Signature Sponsor” means a wish recipient doesn’t have to wait for a wish to get slowly funded. It means their dream, whether that’s a trip, a room makeover, or meeting their hero, can happen quickly.
The Ripple Effect
That one act of generosity changed everything. By leading the way, Earl and Lynne inspired other members of the Roofing Contractors Association of South Florida (RCASF) to join the cause, and what started as a personal gift grew into a community movement.
To date, the partnership between RCASF and Make-A-Wish Southern Florida has raised an incredible $1,749,939, which amounts to about 350 wishes granted.
